== Description == <!--T:2-->
Gas Canister is used to store gasses. The gasses can then be output at a rate of 101.325 kPa per tick. Over-pressurizing the canister will cause it to explode. The "standard pressure" when spawned is defined as 8106 kPa, or 80 Earth Atmospheres. The maximum pressure for a canister is 10.132 MPa, or 100 atmospheres. Its internal volume is 64 Litres.

Usage
To fill the canister, place it into a Gas Tank Storage unit connected to a pipe network carrying gas (equalising the pressure in the network and canister). It can also be refilled by inserting it into the striped area above of the Portable Tank.

When held in the hands or directly from the spacesuit, a canister can be opened, causing its contents to equalise with the atmosphere (or contents of a sealed room).

Used In
* EVA Suit and Hardsuit for Breathable Gas and Waste
maxpressure = 10135 kPa
}}

Description
The Portable Tank is used to store gasses. It has a higher volume than the Gas Canister or Gas Canister (Smart).

The "standard pressure" when spawned is defined as 8106 kPa, or 80 Earth Atmospheres. The maximum pressure for the tank is 10.132 MPa, or 100 atmospheres. Overpressurizing the tank will cause it to explode. Once the maximum pressure is reached the tank starts taking damage until it bursts. This allows the Portable Tank to exceed the pressure rating temporarily.

Usage
The Portable Tank can be connected/disconnected to pipe networks using a Tank Connector, by placing the tank on the connector and then interacting with it using a Wrench. It can also be connected (and disconnected) to the Rover and Lander, with one Portable Tank of Oxygen normally spawning on the lander.

The front of the tank features a striped area where a Gas Canister or Gas Canister (Smart) can be inserted for refilling (equalizing the pressure in both canisters). There is also a pressure regulator valve on the top of the tank that can be used to vent the tank to atmosphere (or into a sealed room). Note that this valve does not need to be opened when connected to a Tank Connector, but the setting of the valve remains persistent between connection and disconnection.

Notes
* If you need higher pressure (and thus higher capacity) canisters, consider using Gas Canister (Smart), which have visible display of tank pressure and a pressure capacity twice that of the standard Gas Canister.

Storing water got you down? At the expense of power, you can turn that excess water into a bunch of heat and a somewhat risky mix of Oxygen and Volatiles using the new Electrolysis Machine. Available on the existing Atmospherics kit with Air Conditioners and Filtration machines.

Usage
# Select Kit (Atmospherics) for placement, and change the variant to Electrolyzer.
# Connect liquid pipe to the Input liquid connection to transfer water into the machine.
# Connect gas pipe to the Output gas connection to remove the created H2 and O2.

Notes
* H2 and O2 are produced mixed together in a single gas pipe, creating a dangerous fuel mixture that can be directly used in a furnace.
* Assuming in vacuum conditions, the Electrolyzer always outputs Oxyhydrogen (ie fuel) at 20 Celcius. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-temperature_electrolysis
* The conversion rate is 1 mol H2O produces 1 mol O2 and 2 mols H2.
* If the temperature inside the Electrolyzer reaches 300C, autoignition occurs, creating heat, and converting virtually all O2 and H2 inside the machine into CO2 and X. Keep this in mind on high-temperature worlds.
* If autoignition occurs, it doesn't propagate to the gas pipe connected to the Electrolyzer, so the gas already removed is safe, provided it is insulated from further temperature increases.
* The Electrolyzer's internal volume is generally separated from the pipe network, and it can release its content only if the machine is turned on.
The player has a Hydration (Thirst) metric which starts at 100% and decreases as time passes in the game. It's displayed in the bottom right corner, under the Hunger metric, and is represented by a blue mug. When the Hydration metric reaches 0% then the Health metric will start to fall. The player will slowly heal again if Hydration is restored to above 0%.

It takes 1L of Water to replenish the Hydration level to 100%, which is 2/3 of a Water Bottle.
1L of water is ~55.6 mol of H2O.

The rate at which the Hydration metric drains from 100% to 0% depends on body (lung?) temperature and difficulty level (this is all based on a hunger/thirst rate in settings of 1.0):
== About == <!--T:2-->
Volatiles or 'H2' is a combustible gas in the presence of Oxygen and the breathing gas of the Zrillian species. The main source of Volatiles on most planets is in the form of Ice (Volatiles) that can be mined on the surface. Volatiles will autoignite at 50 Celcius or above in the presence of Oxygen, but both H2 and O2 must be presents in quantities greater than 5% concentration each to trigger combustion.

Composition
Denoted with the name Volatile, it is a homogenous compound made up of Hydrogen, Chlorine and Hydrocarbons. This means that it is poisonous due to the Chlorine, but also combustible due to the Hydrogen and Methane portions and can be turned into Water with Oxygen in a H2 Combustor that has a self-contained catalyst which helps free the Hydrogen atoms.

Possible compound: CH3Cl (Chloromethane)
<!--Volatiles is a combustible gas, likely chloromethane or other chloride based organic compound, that can be used in combination with Oxygen as a Fuel. The main source of Volatiles on most planets is in the form of Ice (Volatiles) that can be mined on the surface. It is the breathing gas of the Zrillian species. Although the game commonly labels Volatiles as H2, a hydrogen pair molecule, the saved files list X gas as chlorine, meaning to produce carbon dioxide and chlorine, and water, as a byproducts, the compound must contain all three elements.-->

In-Game Description
Volatiles are an extremely reactive, complex organic molecule, which can be used in conjunction with Oxygen as a combustible fuel. It is refined from Ice (Volatiles).

Due to obscure and largely forgotten ODA regulations, volatiles are sometimes labelled 'H2' by various items of technology. however, though they are similar to Hydrogen, they're not 'actually' Hydrogen. Volatiles will no produce water when produced without a catalyst (See the H2 Combustor). Alone, they create pollutants and Carbon Dioxide when burned in the following ratio:

== Usage == <!--T:3-->
Different ratios of Volatiles and Oxygen will produce different temperatures and pressures during combustion. Combustion will create a large amount of Heat, pressure, and Carbon Dioxide. This reaction is useful inside a Furnace for smelting ores and creating alloys, but can be catastrophic when inside a Canister or a room.
Currently as of version v0.1.1089.5513, it is labeled in the atmospheric analyzer as H2, but it is not Hydrogen.. When burned, it produces heat, Pollutants, and Carbon Dioxide in the following reaction:

2 [Volatiles] + 1 O2 → 3 X + 6 CO2 + Heat

This reaction is inconsistent with volatiles being simple hydrocarbons (too much CO2 is produced), but it may be consistent with more complex organic molecules. The reaction appears to only take place with specific quantities of gas, so Oxygen is often left over even when there is an excess of volatiles.

Volatiles have a specific heat of 20.4 Joule / mol.

Notes
* The Specific heat of 20 g/mol is in-between the specific heat of Hydrogen and Methane.
* The actual Autoignition temperature of Chloromethane in Oxygen is 625 °C (1,157 °F; 898 K), the game grossly underestimated the iginition temperature by about 11 times.

==Sources== <!--T:5-->
You can collect Hydrogen from the following sources:

Source !! Amount
Ice (Volatiles) || 22 mol

Can be also obtainable by trading.

== Notes == <!--T:6-->
* Seems that a concentration of H2 greater than 6% in an atmosphere it is lethal to plants, keep attention on that designing a greenhouse, because Advanced Composter will release H2 during the process.
Purpose
Burns a mix of volatiles and oxygen to create Water, combustible byproducts and heat. A Volume pump before the Combustor is a must because up to 350 mol may be processed all at once, far too quickly for one to be able to cool using an AC unit.

To generate electricity with fuel instead, see the Gas Fuel Generator. Alternatively, the heat generated by the H2 Combustor may be used with a Stirling Engine to generate power at a much lower efficiency.

The Stirling Engine is a preferred first step due to it's speed and efficiency on certain planets outside to help cool your water and generate up to 8kW before AC Units are used to get the water down to 0-100 to be consumable, making it possibly a zero-loss system in perfect conditions. Alternatively, the outputs may be air-cooled using radiators on cooler planets or in a vacuum.

<!--T:2-->
Characteristics
* Consumes up to 350 mol of Fuel per tick.
* It converts H2 and O2 to H2O at a conversion ratio of 2:1.
* 2H2 + 1O2 = 1H2O
* Casing is not insulated, will significantly heat up the surrounding environment.
* H2 combuster may be placed in a Vacuum or inside a Frame if the temperature wants to be kept for manufacturing hot gasses.
* Output is just like a furnace, superheated way beyond the max temperature a furnace may produce making it a perfect option for making furnace superheated gasses.
* In one tick, if given a 2000L input network of fuel at 6MPa, will consume 350 mol of Fuel to output 253 Mol of Water at 7000 Celcius and 87 Mol of Co2+X at 4000 Celcius.

<!--T:3-->
Notes
* Best not used indoors, output is incredibly difficult to cool down.
* Like all plants, Winterspawn consumes 0.4 mol of H2O per hour, but it consumes N2 instead of CO2 and uses electrolysis to produce 0.4 mol/hour of O2 and 0.8 mol/hour of H2
* The Alpha variant cools at 90W (90 J/tick) and is most efficient in temperatures between 0 and 40C
* The Beta variant cools at 150W, but has a narrower efficiency band, working most efficiently in temperatures between 14 and 24C
* Winterspawn consumes N2 and H2O while growing, but doesn't produce H2, O2, or have the cooling effect until it's mature
* You can halt the cooling effect of a mature plant without damaging the plant by removing all N2 from the atmosphere, but you must maintain the minimum atmospheric pressure or the plant will take damage
* Removing light from a mature plant does not appear to damage the plant, neither does it appear to halt the cooling and O2/H2 production effect
Usage:
* Connect a H2O pipe with at least 20 mol H2O
* Connect power
* Insert at least 3 ingredients into the input slot on the side
* Turn on the On switch, it will grind the ingredients
* Point at the panel and it will tell you how many are ready for processing. You need at least 3 to produce 1 fertilizer
* Press the Activate button, and it will start processing, including outputting H2 and N2
* When done processing, a fertilizer will be ejected from the output slot
More information:
* Constructed from the Kit (Advanced Composter) which can be produced in the Electronics Printer Mk. II (Tier Two)
* Each unit of fertilizer produced requires:
** Power to run the composter
** 3 ingredients (any mix of Food, Decayed Food, or Biomass)
** 20 mol H2O
** 1 minute of processing time
* While producing one unit of fertilizer, the composter also produces (into the atmosphere):
** 50 mol H2 at 45C
** 50 mol N2 at 45C

Autom8it: Created

The player has a Hydration (Thirst) metric which starts at 100% and decreases as time passes in the game. It's displayed in the bottom right corner, under the Hunger metric, and is represented by a blue mug. When the Hydration metric reaches 0% then the Health metric will start to fall. The player will slowly heal again if Hydration is restored to above 0%.

It takes 1L of Water to replenish the Hydration level to 100%, which is 2/3 of a Water Bottle.

1L of water is ~55.6 mol of H2O.

The rate at which the Hydration metric drains from 100% to 0% depends on body (lung?) temperature and difficulty level:

Body Temperature !! Easy !! Normal !! Stationeer
0C || 69.4 min || 34.7 min || 19.8 min
10C || 34.7 min || 23.1 min || 15.4 min
20C || 23.1 min || 17.4 min || 12.6 min
30C || 17.4 min || 13.9 min || 10.7 min

Since 100% Hydration is 55.6 mol, this can also be expressed as H2O mol per minute:

Body Temperature !! Easy !! Normal !! Stationeer
0C || 0.8 mol/min || 1.6 mol/min || 2.8 mol/min
10C || 1.6 mol/min || 2.4 mol/min || 3.6 mol/min
20C || 2.4 mol/min || 3.2 mol/min || 4.4 mol/min
30C || 3.2 mol/min || 4.0 mol/min || 5.2 mol/min

In theory you will consume less Hydration if you can lower your body (lung?) temperature to less than 0C, but your suit won't allow you to do this. On easy difficulty, if you were to reduce your temperature to near -10C, you would nearly stop water consumption, but your lungs will start to take damage at -10C.

* The Alpha variant cools at 90W (90 J/tick) and is most efficient in temperatures between 0 and 40C
* The Beta variant cools at 150W, but has a narrower efficiency band, working most efficiently in temperatures between 14 and 24C
== Winterspawn == <!--T:3-->
Winterspawn can be grown in hydroponics.
* Provide water into piping (5 to 60c) and an atmosphere of ~7.7KPa. The plants will produce cold O2 and H2 which you will need to remove.

# Connect gas pipe to the Output gas connection to remove the created H2 and O2.

Notes
* H2 and O2 are produced mixed together in a single gas pipe, creating a dangerous fuel mixture that can be directly used in a furnace.
* The conversion rate is 1 mol H2O produces 1 mol O2 and 2 mols H2. While this is double you output you'd expect in the real world, note that the H2 Combustor is the opposite and produces half as much water as it would in the real world.
* If the temperature inside the Electrolyzer reaches 32°C (50C?), autoignition occurs, creating heat, and converting virtually all O2 and H2 inside the machine into CO2 and X.
"the advanced composter creates fertilizer out of organic matter. <br>
It accepts food, decayed food, or biomass. It requires water and power to operate, accelerating the natural composting process.<br>
When processing, it releases Nitrogen and Volatiles, as well as a small amount of heat.<br>
Fertilizer is produced at a 1:3 ratio of fertilizer to ingredients. The fertilizer's effects on plants will vary depending on the respective proportions of its ingredients."
<br>
Usage:
* Connect a H2O pipe with at least 20 mol H2O
* Connect power
* While producing one unit of fertilizer, the composter also produces (into the atmosphere):
** 50 mol H2 at 45C
** 50 mol N2 at 45C

"A simple composting device, the basic composter creates fertilizer out of organic matter. <br>
It accepts food, decayed food, or biomass. It requires a full Liquid Canister and a battery to operate, accelerating the natural composting process.<br>
When processing, it releases Nitrogen and Volatiles, as well as a small amount of heat.<br>
Fertilizer is produced at a 1:3 ratio of fertilizer to ingredients. the fertilizer's effects on plants will vary depending on the respective proportions of its ingredients."
<br>
Usage:
* Insert an H2O canister with at least 20 mol H2O
* Insert a battery cell
* Insert at least 3 ingredients into the input slot on the top
* Turn on the On switch, it will grind the ingredients
* Point at the Activate button and it will tell you how many are ready for processing. You need at least 3 to produce 1 fertilizer
* Press the Activate button, and it will start processing, including outputting H2 and N2
* When done processing, a fertilizer will be produced in the output slot
More information:
* Produced in the Electronics Printer (Tier One)
* Each unit of fertilizer produced requires:
** Power to run the composter
** 3 ingredients (any mix of Food, Decayed Food, or Biomass)
** 20 mol H2O
* While producing one unit of fertilizer, the composter also produces (into the atmosphere):
** 50 mol H2 at 45C
** 50 mol N2 at 45C
* Note that the portable composter seems to produce 15% of the N2 and H2 into the liquid canister, which appears to be a bug
