Filters are used to filter out gas from an input. Only gasses matching the filters type will pass through it.

All filters of the same size cost the same regardless of type and can be made in the Hydraulic Pipe Bender.

Filter Size
* Small filter lasts 2 hours. <!-- 144 ticks per 1% -->
* Medium filter lasts 10 hours. <!-- 720 ticks per 1% -->
* Large filter lasts 40 hours. <!-- 2880 ticks per 1% -->
* Catalytic Filter lasts an unlimited amount of time, but are only available in creative mode.
* The duration is counted as the number of ticks the filter is being used, and only counts ticks in which the filter removed the targeted gas from the input volume. If none of the target gas is present in the input volume, the filter will not count as being used and will not degrade.

Filter Types
* CO2
* Nitrogen
* Nitrous Oxide
* Volatiles
* Water

Tips
# Players start the game with three filters, three CO2 filters in the suit.
# Players breathe out CO2 (just like in real life) and this may need to be considered when setting up a pressurized atmosphere where a helmet will not be worn.
## Note that unlike real life, where concentrations of CO2 as low as 7-10% can cause asphyxiation, CO2 in Stationeers is entirely safe. Players can comfortably breathe even very large ratios of CO2, as long as sufficient partial pressure of oxygen (specifically, 16 kPa) is also present.
# Arc Furnaces and Furnaces produce waste products like pollutants or CO2 which will need to be scrubbed out of a pressurized base (assuming the Furnace is not already hooked up to a Pipe system)
# If you're choosing to play as a Zrilian you will instead have 3 Nitrous Oxide filters instead of 3 CO2 filters as they breath in Volatiles and exhale Nitrous Oxide instead of CO2.
== Description == <!--T:2-->
As the big brother of the Portable Generator the Gas Generator requires fuel and outputs crazy amounts of power if you don't throttle its gas input.

== Notes == <!--T:3-->
* Power generation (as well as heat generated) scales with the amount of fuel available in the input pipe, up to a limit defined by the mix of gases used. This is determined by the moles of gas available in the input, not the absolute pressure.
** With a standard fuel mix (33/67 O/H2) can generate up to 14kW. With NOS fuel mix (50/50 NOS/H2) this rises to 98kW with a volume of 99kpa.
* Use a pressure regulator on the input is recommended. It should generally be set very low at first (potentially as low as as 0.1kpa, using a Labeller to enter decimal values), since it can be difficult to keep cool when run at full power.
* Recommended to connect to a Kit (Battery) and to automate it as backup power.
* Can be used in conjunction with a Electrolyzer to generate its fuel.
* The output is a gas mix of CO2, Pollutants, and tiny amounts of uncombusted fuel. It is not water, as would be implied by its compatibility with the Electrolyzer.
* Requires to be placed in an atmosphere to work. Minimum pressure of 20 kPA and temperature ranging between 278-328 degrees Kelvin (5-55 Celsius)
** If the surrounding atmosphere is absent, of insufficient pressure, or outside of the necessary temperature range, the generator will run for one tick and then automatically turn itself off. Since it does still produce power during that tick, the generator can be used in a complete vacuum at approximately half the maximum power output (since approximately every other tick it is turned off), but without any need to temperature regulate the surroundings, by using logic chips or an IC10 to force it to turn on again any time it is off. A battery or other power storage system is required to ensure the logic circuitry remains powered even after the generator shuts itself off
* Due to the magnitude of power generated, especially when using NOS fuel, heavy power cables are functionally required. If using multiple generators and/or NOS fuel while outputting to batteries, it is recommended to place 1 or 2 Large Transformers between the generator(s) and the batteries to avoid burning out even heavy cable. Two large transformers set just below their maximum setting will prevent the batteries from drawing enough power from the generators to burn out the heavy cables.
* The generator has an internal volume of 10L.
Mushrooms can be grown in hydroponics without light to yield 3 Mushrooms and 1 Mushroom Seed when fully grown. They must be replanted after being harvested, using either a Mushroom Seed or a raw Mushroom. Unlike other plants, mushrooms will be damaged when exposed to sunlight or Grow Lights. Mushrooms are not damaged by exposure to suit lights, Portable Lights, or normal |Wall Lights, only sunlight and Grow Lights.

As they are fungi, mushrooms consume O2 and produce CO2, the opposite of how other food crops work (a change, according to the implementation notes, intended to align with how fungi function in the real world). When farmed with an equal number of other food crop in an atmosphere containing both O2 and CO2, a net balance of gases can be achieved (O2 and CO2 will both be produced and consumed at the same rate). Note that mushrooms cannot be exposed to sunlight/Grow Lights, while other plants require sunlight/Grow Lights, so care must be taken if farming mushrooms with other plants in the same area.
Growing
Tomatoes can be grown in hydroponics. When first planted, they will yield 3 Tomatoes and 1 Tomato seed once fully grown. As a perennial crop, tomatoes do not need to be replanted, and will reset to the fruiting growth stage once harvested. After the first harvest, they will yield only 1 Tomato per harvest, rather than 3. The seed stage of growth occurs after the fruiting stage, both initially and when regrowing, and since the tomato plant does not need to be replanted when harvested, they can be harvested after fruiting but before seeding to approximately double the production of Tomatoes at the cost of not producing any further seeds. Like most food crops, Tomatoes can be grown from either Tomato Seeds or raw Tomatoes.

* Atmosphere: Minimum atmosphere pressure ~35 kPa, with 1% Carbon Dioxide and under 1KPa Pollutant (X).
* Consumes Carbon Dioxide and produce Oxygen at 8.64 mols per hour
* Temp: Minimum atmosphere temperature of 0C (273K) is required for growth, under 0C (273K) or over 50C (323K) the plants will die after 2 minutes.
* The ideal temperature range for maximum growth speed is between 20-30C
* Water: 5-60 Degree Celsius to avoid taking damage
* Plants require Water, but consume only ~0.043 mols per hour
* Light: A Grow Lights are required for plant growth. For avoiding damage tomato needs 8 minutes of light per day, and 5 minutes of darkness per day.
* Optionally: you can increase yield or growth speed by adding fertilizer created in a Portable Composter or an Advanced Composter
<!--T:1-->
Description
Burns a fuel mixture of volatiles and oxygen to produce high-temperature Steam. The H2 Combustor should be fed a 2:1 ratio of volatiles to oxygen. It will output mix of gases at 2500 C, made up of approximately 46.67% Carbon Dioxide, 30% Steam, and 23.33% |Pollutants, plus trace amounts of unburnt volatiles and oxygen.

To generate electricity with fuel instead, see the Gas Fuel Generator. Alternatively, the heat generated by the H2 Combustor may be used with a Stirling Engine to generate power at a much lower efficiency.

However, while lower efficiency than a Gas Fuel Generator, in terms of energy output per mole of fuel input, a Stirling Engine is a practical and effective first step for cooling the output due to the fact that it generates power from cooling, rather than consuming power to cool the output (such as with an Air Conditioner). Depending on the exact setup, and how efficiently the Stirling Engine can be cooled (best on cold non-vacuum planets like Europa and Mars), it's possible for the Stirling Engine to offset the power cost of H2 Combustor, Filtration, and the entire rest of the cooling system, resulting in a zero-loss or even net-positive system. Alternatively, the outputs may be air-cooled using radiators on cooler planets or in a vacuum.

<!--T:2-->
Characteristics
* Consumes fuel from the input, requiring a 2:1 mix of volatiles to oxygen. Imprecise ratios will result in lower production rate, and the unburnt excess in the output.
* Produces approximately 46% more moles output than the fuel input consumed.
* Rate of fuel consumption from the input, and thus rate of production, is based on the pressure of the input. The unit will consume 3.42 L of fuel from the input each tick.
* Has an internal volume of 100L, where the product of the combustion is stored before being pushed to the output pipe.
* The unit, and gas inside it, will interact with the surrounding environment, as well as radiating heat in a vacuum (and thus cooling the gas inside it). In an air-filled room, this will significantly heat the surroundings.
* The initial temperature of the products is 2500 C.
* The water in the output is initially produced as a liquid before rapidly evaporating due to the temperature. This results in noticeable innate cooling of the output, up to ~100 C. Further losses from radiation or convection cooling of the surroundings also assist with this.
* Each tick that the unit is turned on, it will first equalize its internal volume with the output pipe network, before pulling in and combusting more fuel to add to the internal volume.
** This only occurs when the unit is turned on, so if the unit is switched off, whatever gas remains in the unit will continue cooling through radiation or convection without equalizing to the output pipe.
** Since the equalization occurs before more fuel is pulled in, after the first tick the unit is on, it will have gases stored inside it but won't have pushed any to the output pipe yet.
** Has a Mode variable that can be set to 0 to allow the unit to be kept on, and continue to push gases to the output, without pulling more fuel in.
* Consumes only 10 W of power even when running.

The battery cells are used in many items and tools. Aside from energy capacity, they are interchangeable in all uses. Small cells will be depleted quite rapidly in certain items/tools, such as a suit, portable A/C, or Arc Welder, however, due to their small energy capacity. Other tools, such as the Labeller and Laptop, consume very little power and can be run off of even small cells for extended periods.
Producing charcoal
Charcoal is an ore, but it can't be mined. Instead, it must be produced from organic matter.

Plants, cooked food, decayed food, or seeds placed in a Recycler will generate 1 Reagent Mix each. This Reagent Mix can be put it into a Centrifuge to convert it to Biomass (this step is optional, unless the Reagent Mix was mixed/stacked with other Reagent Mix containing different ingredients). Either the Biomass or the original Reagent Mix can be placed in an Arc Furnace, or a Furnace/Advanced Furnace at over 580K and at least 100 kPa of pressure, to convert it into Charcoal.

Each conversion step is 1:1, so the overall ratio is 1 Charcoal for every 1 plant/cooked food/decayed food/seed.

Steel from iron and charcoal
Charcoal can replace Coal when making Steel. The ratio is the same, 1 Charcoal for every 3 Iron ore.

Gases
When Charcoal is burned in a Solid Generator it will release 3 mol CO2 and 3 mol of X. These gases can also be released in a Furnace or Arc-Furnace without destroying the Charcoal.

When Biomass is converted to Charcoal, each one will release 8 mol of Volatiles and 4 mol of X.

With Carbon Dioxide from Charcoal, Volatiles from Biomass, and Oxygen from living plants, it becomes possible to create a renewable cycle that creates and consumes these three gases. It's preferable to keep the level of Carbon Dioxide in the plants atmosphere as low as possible without allowing it to reach zero. This is because plants in the game will consume less Carbon Dioxide when there is less of it available, while still being able to grow at a normal rate and produce Oxygen at full capacity.

Water Purification
The Water Purifier runs exclusively on Charcoal (it cannot use normal Coal as fuel), converting Polluted Water back into clean Water. This allows the Polluted Water output from a Shower to be cleaned and re-added to the main water stockpile, or simply re-used in the shower again.

Fuel
Charcoal can be burned in the Solid Fuel Generator to produce power. But it does not behave like regular Coal does .

When 1 Coal is burned, it will burn for 6 game-ticks (3 seconds) and release 20 kW of power each tick, for a total of 60 kJ.

When a stack of Charcoal is burned, they will not burn to completion, they will only burn for ~2 game-ticks which gives ~20 kJ energy each. Only ~33% of the available energy is obtained.

With a little bit of automation it's possible to release 100% of the energy from a stack of Charcoal. A Stacker controlled by an IC can be used to release the Charcoal one by one every 8 game-ticks, this is enough time for each Charcoal to always burn to completion.

Example IC code - releasing Charcoal from a Stacker to a Solid Generator to get 100% power efficiency:
<pre>
alias Stacker d0

s Stacker Mode 1
s Stacker Setting 1

MaxCharcoalPower:
yield
ls r0 Stacker 2 Occupied
beqz r0 MaxCharcoalPower
s Stacker Output 0
sleep 3.5
j MaxCharcoalPower

Used to store two mining tools (or 2 tools of any type) and 8 slots for ores. When the belt is equipped, mined ores are automatically stored inside it.

Items stored in the mining belt can be removed automatically using an Unloader.

Use in Storage
The Mining Belt's ability to store 8 ore stacks per belt while also fitting into a single backpack or locker slot, allows achieving incredible storage densities by placing multiple belts within the same inventory. A single Hardsuit Backpack using all slots to store Mining Belts could hold 96 stacks of ore. Using a double wide locker to hold Hardsuit Backpacks filled with ore would be capable of holding 2880 stacks of ore, or 144000 individual ores.

As with other mining belts/packs, ices stored in the belt will not melt or sublimate regardless of the exterior atmosphere, allowing indefinitely storage of ices even in hot atmospheres.

Mining Belts can be painted by dropping them on the ground and then using a Spray Paint can on them.

If you want more storage, upgrade to the Mining Belt MK II or add a Hard Mining Backpack.

== Description == <!--T:1-->
The Mining Drill (Heavy) has 2 modes, default and flatten, where the flatten mode levels the ground (it can not dig down). The drill is used for mining, and requires a battery to operate.

The benefit of this drill is that it mines much faster than the Mining Drill. Unlike the standard Mining Drill, the Mining Drill (Heavy) does not have a "Mk II" variant, as the base model has the same temperature tolerance as a Mk II of the standard Mining Drill. This makes it just as useful on extremely hot planets like Vulcan as on other planets.
<!--T:1-->
Description
Used to separate gases from one pipe network into another using filters. Can filter up to two (2) gases at once. Guide (Filtration) provides additional information regarding the function, construction, and operation of a Filtration unit.

Usage
Once you have placed the Filtration Unit in your desired location, there are 3 separate connections that will need to be made:
# Input - Starting gas network that you want to filter from
# Output - Filtered gas
# Waste - Remaining unfiltered gas from the input
<br>

Place the appropriate filter(s) in the Filtration unit for the particular gas that your want to filter. Up to two filters can be placed into a filtration unit. If these are different types of filters, both types of gas will be filtered simultaneously. Placing two of the same type of filter in the unit does not increase filtration speed, it just provides redundancy for when one of the filters runs out.

Be aware that the filtration unit unrealistically has an infinitely powerful pump integrated into its output port. That means as long as it is turned on and there is gas to filter out from the input, it will pump that filtered out gas into the output pipe network (no matter how high the pressure in that output pipe network already is!). So eventually that pipe network will burst (around 60 MPa) unless you provide some sort of pop-off valve (e.g. a combination of a back-pressure regulator and a passive vent), use a pipe analyzer and some logic to turn the filtration unit off when a certain amount of pressure is exceeded in the output pipe network, or use the onboard IC10 and a data connection to the output (tank or pipe analyzer) to disable the unit when it reaches a certain threshold. Note that on-board IC10 chips do not execute when the unit is turned off, so an on-board IC10 is only capable of turning the unit off if output pressure is too high, it is not capable of turning the unit back on once output pressure drops.

As of patch patch 0.2.4218.19726, the filtration system processing speed is based the difference between the pressure of input and higher pressure of the two outputs. If the higher-pressure output is equal to or higher than the input pressure, the unit will process an amount of input gas equivalent to 10 MPa per litre, per tick, with the amount pushed to the two outputs based on the partial pressure of the gas being filtered in the input. For example, if a unit is set to filter nitrogen, and the input is 20% at 10 MPa, and the higher of the two outputs is at >= 10 MPa (for example, if the waste output is connected back to the input), then the unit will push, per tick, 2 MPa-litres (ie. 200 kPa in a single 10 L pipe segment) to the filtered output, and 8 MPa-litres to the waste output.

If the pressure of the highest-pressure output is less than the input pressure, the unit will process per tick will be equal to 10 MPa*L + (PressureDifferential * 3.16885) MPa*L, where the PressureDifferential is the input pressure minus the output pressure, in MPa. As above, this output is split between the filtered output and the waste output based on the partial pressure of the filtered gas in the input. As an example, if the input pressure is 10 MPa at 20% nitrogen, and the higher-pressure of the outputs is at 2 MPa, the unit will process 1 + (10-2) * 3.16885 = 35.351 MPa*L, which is equivalent to increasing the pressure of a single 10 L pipe segment by 3.5351 MPa. 20% of this, or 7.07 MPa*L, would be pushed to the output (if the output is a single 10 L pipe segment, this would increase its pressure by 707 kPa), and the remaining 80% (28.28 MPa*L) would be pushed to the waste output.

In effect, if the waste output is connected to the input, and the filtered output is a single pipe segment (followed by a pump), the rate of output for the filtered gas will be 10 kPa per tick multiplied by the percentage of gas in the input that matches the filter (ex. if 20% nitrogen, 200 kPa to that single pipe segment per tick). If both the outputs are instead single pipe segments fed into volume pumps, so they remain at 0 pressure at all times, the rate of output of the filtered gas will be the percentage of the gas in the input that matches the filter multiplied by 1 MPa + 31.69% of the pressure of the input (ex. 10 MPa input, 20% nitrogen, the single pipe segment on the filtered output would gain 0.2 * (1 + 3.169) = 834 kPa per tick).

Characteristics
* It has a manual power switch.
* It consumes 10W of Power per Tick when idle and 44W when active.
* It has a separate Power Port and Data Port.
* It has an on-board IC10 chip slot.
* It has a pipe port (labelled "Input") for the gas mixture from which the designated gas(es) will be filtered.
* It has a pipe port (labelled "Filtered") for the designated gas(es) that have been filtered. (This is in line with and directly opposite of the input)
* It has a pipe port (labelled "Unfiltered") for any remaining unfiltered gases. (This is to the side)
* It can filter up to 2 different gases at once by inserting two different filters.
** Inserting two of the same type of filter does not increase filtration speed.
Note: When using an I/O slot reader chip, the filter slots are labeled as slot 1, slot 2 and slot 3(IC), with 1 being the slot closer to the inlet.
When using an IC chip, the slots are labeled as slot 0, slot1 and slot 2(IC).

<!--T:1-->

<br>

For example, if a unit is set to filter nitrogen, and the input is 20% at 10 MPa, and the higher of the two outputs is at >= 10 MPa (for example, if the waste output is connected back to the input), then the unit will push, per tick, 2 MPa per litre (ie. 200 kPa in a single 10 L pipe segment) to the filtered output, and 8 MPa per litre to the waste output.

If the pressure of the highest-pressure output is less than the input pressure, the unit will process per tick will be equal to 10 MPa/L + (PressureDifferential * 3.16885) MPa/L, where the PressureDifferential is the input pressure minus the output pressure, in MPa. As above, this output is split between the filtered output and the waste output based on the partial pressure of the filtered gas in the input. As an example, if the input pressure is 10 MPa at 20% nitrogen, and the higher-pressure of the outputs is at 2 MPa, the unit will process 1 + (10-2) * 3.16885 = 35.351 MPa/L, which is equivalent to increasing the pressure of a single 10 L pipe segment by 3.5351 MPa. 20% of this, or 7.07 MPa/L, would be pushed to the output (if the output is a single 10 L pipe segment, this would increase its pressure by 707 kPa), and the remaining 80% (28.28 MPa/L) would be pushed to the waste output.

Description
This kit is used to crush ice into liquids and/or gases. The Ice Crusher has two outputs at the back, which can be connected to Pipes (yellow) and Liquid Pipe (blue) to extract the products. The top output is for Gas outputs, and the bottom output is for Liquids. Different kinds of Ice can be crushed:
:Ice (Water) produces liquid Water and Nitrogen gas (80% water, 20% nitrogen)
:Ice (Oxite) produces Oxygen and Nitrogen gas (90% Oxygen, 10% nitrogen)
:Ice (Volatiles) produces Hydrogen gas (100% Hydrogen)
:Ice (Nitrice) produces Nitrogen and Nitrous_Oxide gas (90% Nitrogen, 10% Nitrous Oxide)

Refilling Water Bottles Early Game
The ice crusher can be used to get drinkable water early on, by connecting it to a Water Bottle Filler using Liquid Pipe and piping the Nitrogen out with a pump or an Active Vent to avoid blocking the ice crusher. Note however that if done inside, this could lead to pressure accumulating over time, which could be dangerous if not eventually upgraded to a more robust gas handling system.
Notes
* It can be safely used in higher temperature environments if the ice is transferred instantly into the crusher from the mining belt.
* When using it for crushing Ice (Water), 20% Nitrogen gas is still produced, and care must be taken to avoid overpressurization over time.
* It is not insulated, so the gases and/or liquids it contains will equalize temperature with the environment.
* Must be kept turned on to release the liquids and/or gases it contains.
* Has an internal capacity of 200L.
* Will not explode from overpressure of its internal capacity, but will stop crushing ice and flash an error if its internal pressure exceeds 125 MPa. It will resume crushing once its internal pressure drops below approximately 121 MPa.
* Outputs gas at a maximum rate of 9.231 MPa per tick into a single pipe segment (exactly 20 MPa into 6 pipe segments every 13 ticks), stopping once its internal pressure equals the pressure of the output port. This drops its internal pressure by 0.4615 MPa per tick.
* Can generate gas from crushing ice substantially faster than its maximum gas output rate, at a rate of approximately 5 MPa to its internal capacity per tick spent crushing ice.

Once you have placed the Filtration Unit in your desired location, there are 3 separate connections that will need to be made:
# Input - Starting gas network that you want to filter from
# Output - Filtered gas
# Waste - Remaining unfiltered gas from the input
<br>

As of patch patch 0.2.4218.19726, the filtration system processing speed is based the pressure differential between the input and output. The unit will output filtered gas equivalent to 10 L (one pipe segment) at a pressure equal to 1/40th of the partial pressure of the gas being filtered in the input. As an example, if the input is at 10 MPa and is 20% nitrogen (so partial pressure of nitrogen is 2 MPa), a filtration unit with a nitrogen filter will output, per tick, an amount of nitrogen equivalent to 50 kPa (2 MPa / 40) in a 10 L volume (~0.205 moles at 20 C). Since the partial pressure difference between the input and output directly impacts the speed, pressurizing the input is beneficial, as is attaching the output to a single pipe segment followed by an active Volume Pump set to maximum throughput (10 L/tick) to ensure the output is at minimum pressure.

Note: When using an I/O slot reader chip, the filter slots are labeled as slot 1, slot 2 and slot 3(IC), with 1 being the slot closer to the inlet.
When using an IC chip, the slots are labeled as slot 0, slot1 and slot 2(IC).
