Aug 15 2025 - I am pretty unfamiliar with how mediawiki works, I'm curious how categories are to be attatched at the bottom of this page and how to link this to the main page under furniture category. Any help would be appreciated - Banangecko

Hey Banangecko, Welcome to the Wiki! Categories can be added manually to pages by using <nowiki>[[Category:name]]</nowiki> (see [[Chick]] on how the Animal category is added by using this block). Alternatively, categories can also be applied through Templates (like how it has been for [[Drinking Fountain]]) - where the use of [[Template:Structurebox]] to structure it's info box on the side of the page also automatically applies the Structures category, as it has been defined through the Template. Ideally, try to use Categories that already exist as creating additional categories causes more pages to be created but may not necessary add any value (unless you believe otherwise). Sorry also forgot to mention - the furniture button the main page is just a page where someone has created a table and manually inputted items into it. When your [[Food]] decays, it turns into this. Decayed Food can be processed into [[Biomass]] using a [[Recycler]] and a [[Centrifuge]]. While it is no longer useful as food, it is useful as the early stage of a [[biofuel pipeline]] for electricity generation. Suffice to say, eating this is a bad idea.

== Factors Towards Decaying ==
The exact speed of decay varies individually by:

- TEMPATURE - Refridgeration will slow decay, but many foods will be damaged by exposure to extreme low pressure, as well as extreme heat. The optimum temperature is 0 kelvin (-272ºC).

- FOOD TYPE - Each [[food]] type has its own decay properties. [[Tomato Soup]] lasts a lot longer than a [[Tomato]], for instance.

- PRESSURE - Food decays faster when the pressure drops below 1 atmosphere (101kPa). Decay happens exponentially more quickly as the atmosphere approaches a perfect vacuum. There is no effect from higher pressures.

- ATMOSPHERE - Different gases can slow and accelerate the decay process. The process will take account of respective gas ratios in mixed atmospheres in calculating the decay modifier. The following rates apply across all foods:

The [[Power Controller|Area Power Controller]] is used to segregate power into their own subnetworks and reduce power fluctuations.

== Usage == 
The APC can be opened with a [[Crowbar]], once opened the switch must be set to the 'ON' state for it to function. A [[Battery Cell]] can be added to act as a power buffer for the subnetwork in the event the main power network gets disconnected.

The APC can generally be used for machines with varying power requirements such as the Auto lathe, Electronics Printer, Fabricator, Arc Furnace, and more. This will allow all these machines to take lots of power in short intervals as long as the APC has a battery. Unlike the [[Transformer]], the APC will not limit the amount of power it passes through.

If sufficient power is available upstream, the APC acts as a pass through and will not limit it's output power, it is recommended to use a [[Fuse|Cable Fuse]] or [[Transformer|Transformer (Small)]] when powering a non-heavy cable network to prevent overdraw.

Plants have a set of Genes that modifies its behavior. A plant's genes will be manipulated in a number of ways, both naturally as well as artificially. When a plant produces fruit or seeds it will pass on its genetics with a small random mutation.

On top of random mutations, a plant's condition over its life can also affect its genes - for example if a plant is starved of water, while it may affect the plants growth speed and vield, the offspring will receive genes that make it require less water. In this way vou can manipulate your crop's ideal conditions.

There are a number of tools you will need to manage your crops effectively: [[Plant Sampler]] and [[Plant Genetic Analyzer]]. These tools allow you to sample a growing plant and see the state of its genes.

Plant genetics is not an exact science and will require trial and error and repeated attempts before you are able to reach your targets.

Food decays over time into [[Decayed Food]], unless refridgerated in a sutable atmosphere. The exact speed of decay varies individually by:

- TEMPATURE - Refridgeration will slow decay, but many foods will be damaged by exposure to extreme low pressure, as well as extreme heat. The optimum temperature is 0 kelvin (-272ºC).

- FOOD TYPE - Each [[food]] type has its own decay properties. [[Tomato Soup]] lasts a lot longer than a [[Tomato]], for instance.

- PRESSURE - Food decays faster when the pressure drops below 1 atmosphere (101kPa). Decay happens exponentially more quickly as the atmosphere approaches a perfect vacuum. There is no effect from higher pressures.

- ATMOSPHERE - Different gases can slow and accelerate the decay process. The process will take account of respective gas ratios in mixed atmospheres in calculating the decay modifier. The following rates apply across all foods:

Your average Stationeer needs to drink water regularly. However, arcane and possibly misguided [[ODA (Faction)|ODA]] health and safety regulations have long denied Stationeers the right to in-suit hydration mechanisms. Instead, they must take regular drink breaks to open their helmet, and imbibe water. Doing so in an umpressurized environment is unadvised.

How often to drink? This is determined by your difficulty level, the heat of the planet and how much you like to move your body.

Water comes in many forms. At least one [[Water Bottle]] is supplied to Stationeers as part of their rations when landing on new planets, with more in your lander crates. These can be refilled using a [[Water Bottle Filler]], wihich must itself be connected to a liquid pipe network. The network itself can be filled using a [[Ice Crusher]] with a suitable supply of [[Ice (Water)|Ice]].

Your spacesuit provides you with a portable atmosphere, with adjustable pressure and air conditioning (temperature) settings, as well as a warning system that will alert you should the atmosphere inside the suit become hazardous. It functions in conjuction with a suitable helmet to function properly, as well as suitable gas canisters and filters in the suit's various slots. These will need to be changed regularly, and can also be recharged (or drained) using a [[Suit Storage]]

There are several suits, including the [[EVA Suit]] and the more pressure- and temperature-resistant [[Hardsuit]].

Your suit various readouts are at the bottom-right of the screen. Pressing the appropriate numeric key will bring up a panel showing its slots and settings. These include:

== Growing Food ==
To survive on alien worlds, the [[ODA]] expects all Stationeers to set up viable hydroponic systems, or contact registered local resource [[traders]]

== SETTING UP ==

When setting up your hydroponic system, you will need seeds. Alternatively, you can plant the food itself.

Common Stationeer hydroponic equipment includes:

- [[Portable Hydroponics]]<br>
- [[Kit (Hydroponic Tray)]]<br>
- [[Kit (Hydroponic Station)]]<br>
- [[Harvie]]<br>

All hydroponics systems require water, sunlight and the correct gas mixture - plants require [[Carbon Dioxide]] and produce [[Oxygen]] (except for [[Alien Mushroom]]). Plants will not grow in the wrong atmosphere. If plants do not have enough light, you will need to build a [[Grow Light]].

== HARVESTING ==

Most plants have several growth stages. The first stages are the plant growing through its lifecycle. During the third phase, seeds may be harvested from the plant. In the fourth phrase, the plant will yield fruit. After that, unless cleared, the plant will die.

== FERTILIZER ==

Fertilizer alters plant growth processes, and is created by the [[Portable Composter]] and the [[Advanced Composter]] using organic matter.

Fertilizer's affects depend on its ingredients:

- [[Food]] increases individual PLANT YIELD by up to 3 items.<br>
- [[Decayed Food]] increases plant GROWTH SPEED by up to 3 times.<br>
- [[Biomass]] increases the NUMBER OF GROWTH CYCLES the ferilizer lasts for to a maximum of 5.

The effect of these ingredients depends on their respective proportions in the composter when processing is activated. Fertilizer is produced at a 1:3 ratio of fertilizer to ingredients. When processing, [[Nitrogen]] and [[Volatiles]] is released, as well a small amount of heat.
