== Description == 
Harnessing an ancient thermal exploit, the Recurso 'Libra' Stirling Engine generates power via the expansion and contraction of a working gas to drive pistons operating an electrical generator.

When high pressure hot gas is supplied into the input pipe, this gas will heat the hot side of the unit, then pass into the output pipe. The cooler side uses the room's ambient atmosphere, which must be kept at a lower temperature in order to create a differential. Add a working gas by inserting a gas canister. The unit must be deactivated when adding or removing canisters, or the working gas may leak into the surrounding atmosphere.

Gases with a low molecular mass make the most efficient working gases. Increasing the moles of working gas can result in a greater potential power output. However, overpressuring the unit may have... sub-optimal results.

The Stirling Engine has an efficiency curve that is dependent on three factors:
* Environment
* Working Gas
* Input to Output efficiency
The best a Stirling Engine can provide in power is 15% efficiency of the input heat, whereas a [[Kit (Gas Fuel Generator)|Gas Fuel Generator]] has a much higher efficiency ratio per Mol of fuel.

== Environment ==
The Stirling engine itself is best placed in a 13-25 Celcius environment to provide the highest efficiency. The only planets where it cannot effectively be used outside are: Venus, Moon and Mimas

The working gas is a canister of gas that must be provided to the machine before it can be used. The gas itself is not lost, only used as a heat transfer gas.
When filling it, 60 mols of gas in the canister is needed, which is usually around 2.4MPa when it is pressurized at room temperature.

The Stirling Generator has a maximum pressure differential of 11000 KPa (11 MPa): If the difference in pressure between the internal working gas and external atmosphere exceeds this, it will explode in a radius of more than 3x3, destroying everything in its path and killing players. There needs to be one canister that is used to transfer the heat, it explodes easily if overpressure is reached, unlike normal canisters it doesn't take time to explode as it is instant. Due to its explosive nature, steps of caution i.e. pressure regulators are advised to be placed before the generator input. 
 
The power output scales on how fast it can transfer heat from the input gas to the outside atmosphere, which depends on the pressure and heat transfer rate of the working gas, and the temperature difference between the input gas and the outside temperature. The cooled down input gas is transferred to the output pipe - you can connect the output to the input in order to extract heat energy from a pipe network. 
To increase the pressure differential efficiency, you can increase the temperature delta between the input gas and the outside atmosphere, or increase the working gas pressure.

==Vulcan==

The Stirling Engine is a reasonable way to generate night time power on Vulcan when solar power is unavailable. Place it outside so it's in night time (400K) atmosphere, and capture mid-day (900 to 950K) atmosphere into a tank and run the Stirling Generator from that hot air at night, the generator can produce around 1.8 kW from the temperature difference. For the working gas, a good starting point is 70 moles of H2 in the canister. You can boost the power output to about 2.1kW by using an active vent to blow cold night air into the large grid that the Stirling Engine is in to cool it down.

While the wind turbine is optimized to produce power (up to 500W) even on low atmosphere worlds, it performs best in denser environments. The Wind Turbine is a tall wind power generating structure built from a Kit (Wind Turbine).

Wind turbines can generate a [[Wind_Turbine#Average_Power_Output|varying amount of energy based on the planet]]. However, during [[Storm|storms]], wind turbines will spin much faster and can produce upwards of 10,000W. Due to this, it is recommended to use [[Transformer|transformers]] when using wind turbines as your main source of power on planets like [[Europa]] and [[Mars]].

Despite their alarming speed during storms, wind turbine blades will not damage Stationeers upon impact.

As the big brother of the [[Portable Generator]] the Gas Generator requires [[fuel]] and outputs crazy amounts of power if you don't throttle its gas input.

== Notes == 
* Power generation (as well as heat generated) scales with the amount of fuel available in the input pipe, up to a limit defined by the mix of gases used. This is determined by the moles of gas available in the input, not the absolute pressure.
** With a standard fuel mix (33/67 O2/H2) can generate up to 14kW. With NOS fuel mix (50/50 N2O/H2) this rises to 98kW with a pressure of 99kPa.
* Use of a pressure regulator on the input is recommended. It should generally be set very low at first (potentially as low as as '''0.1kPa''', using a [[Labeller]] to enter decimal values), since it can be difficult to keep cool when run at full power.
* Recommended to connect to a [[Kit (Battery)]] and to automate it as backup power.
* Can be used in conjunction with a [[Atmospherics#Electrolyzer |Electrolyzer]] to generate its fuel.
* The output is a gas mix of CO2, [[Pollutant]]s, and tiny amounts of uncombusted fuel. It is not water, as would be implied by its compatibility with the Electrolyzer.
* Requires to be placed in an atmosphere to work. Minimum pressure of 20 kPa and temperature ranging between 278-328 degrees Kelvin (5-55 Celsius)
** If the surrounding atmosphere is absent, of insufficient pressure, or outside of the necessary temperature range, the generator will run for one tick and then automatically turn itself off. Since it does still produce power during that tick, the generator can be used in a complete vacuum at approximately half the maximum power output (since approximately every other tick it is turned off), but without any need to temperature regulate the surroundings, by using logic chips or an IC10 to force it to turn on again any time it is off. A battery or other power storage system is required to ensure the logic circuitry remains powered even after the generator shuts itself off
* Due to the magnitude of power generated, especially when using NOS fuel, heavy power cables are functionally required. If using multiple generators and/or NOS fuel while outputting to batteries, it is recommended to place 1 or 2 [[Transformer|Large Transformers]] between the generator(s) and the batteries to avoid burning out even heavy cable. Two large transformers set just below their maximum setting will prevent the batteries from drawing enough power from the generators to burn out the heavy cables.
* The generator has an internal volume of 10L.

== Description ==

The Dirt Canister is a canister that stores dirt. It is used with the [[Terrain Manipulator]] to add or remove material from a terrain.

In order to add dirt to the canister it must be placed in an ore slot of your [[Mining Belt]], you then begin mining.
